Independent Status Reports (12 August, 2005)
By Brian King
Mozdev was offline recently for about 24 hours. Our main hosting facility was hit by a flood caused by a broken water main. The utilities company ordered them to shut down all power, including their backup generator. Luckily this did not happen a crucial time such as a major Mozilla release, but it has focused our thoughts on a more robust backup plan. We do have a mirror system in place for grabbing your favourite extensions and more, and thanks to John Haller for stepping up and providing a mirror list in our time of need. So some things we can't prevent like burst water pipes, but we are continuing to do our best to provide the best services for Mozilla developers. And looking at this month's crop of reports, the developers are doing their best to bring you the best software. Enjoy!
Note: If anyone has an update that they would like included in the next report, go here, or have any feedback on the reports in general, feel free to contact us.

This project is my Google Summer of Code submission. I've made considerable progress in translating Thunderbird into Vietnamese, using version 1.1a2.
Noteworthy notables
- Somehow my proposal got selected for the Summer of Code. mozdev is my mentoring organization. That’d be the first time I make it onto the front page of mozillaZine.
:^) - I was originally going to translate Firefox 1.1a2, but it seems that there are already three Vietnamese l10n projects, one of which has 1.1 partially translated.
- So I switched to translating Thunderbird, which is working out just fine, except that I have tons more to translate.
- At last count, I have only 312 files left to go…

MultExI - v0.1
(nstall Mozilla/Firefox extensions across multiple machines)
- Home Page
- Install
- Contact: Ludwig Hunecke
For: Firefox
Platform: Windows, Linux, *BSD, Solaris (Server component)
MultExI is a new project on MozDev.org that tries to establish a method to install Firefox extensions across multiple machines. The project is devided into two parts: a MultExI client Component and the corresponding server component. On server side one can define a list of extensions to install. After the initial installation of MultExI on the client, the client contacts the server component and then installs all defined extensions. The server component is a simple J2EE application, that should run in any container. The target of the MultExI project ist the simplification of the integration and administration of system far standarts, so that Firefox' way to companies becomes easier. Later MultExI will also be adjusted for Thunderbird, Sunbird and Mozilla.
Client component:- Read mcc_config.xml (MulteXi Client Component _ Configuration), parse it and store properties in Firefox preferences
- Download edf.xml (extensions definition file - file that defines extensions that have to be installed) and parse it.
- For testing, half-automatic installation and updating of extensions defined in edf.xml by MultExI extension through common update/install user dialogs.
Server component:
- Automatic configuration of mcc_config.xml
- Pack MultExI distribution and publish it (with modified mcc_config.xml) under multexi.xpi in local web deployment
- Administrate extensions to install through easy to handle web interface
- Update MultExI distribution on server component that will be deliviered at the initial installation, either trough an complete automatic or manual update through the web interface
