From baddogsprocket at yahoo.com Sat Nov 12 12:13:43 2005 From: baddogsprocket at yahoo.com (BadDogSprocket) Date: Sat Nov 12 15:43:09 2005 Subject: [Ymnotifier] Disabling Those Annoying Popup Alerts Message-ID: <20051112201343.91823.qmail@web33315.mail.mud.yahoo.com> I am using ymnotifier 0.9.2 on Mozilla Firefox 1.0.6. Great Extension, but it has one annoying problem. My wireless network doesn't reach the whole house, so sometimes I lose connectivity if I take my laptop through or to a dead area. I have ymnotifier set up to check email every minute, so if I am off the network for say, five minutes, I get five popup alerts from ymnotifier that it was unable to contact the mail server. If I am off the network for 64 minutes ... you guessed it, I get 64 alerts. You gotta get rid of these popup alerts. Popup windows are evil by definition. Sometimes they are a necessary evil, like when you are about to accidentally reformat your home directory or about to launch an ICBM at Russia. Losing wireless connectivity for a few minutes just doesn't qualify. I suggest you replace the annoying popup alerts with some sort of icon that appears next to the little "letter" icon. Hell, even changing the number from "0" to something like "-1" would work for me. Just ... no ... popups. Popups suck. Way hard. Thanks, Dan __________________________________ Yahoo! I added the popup on failing to check for mail later as an after thought, but you bring up a good point. There is no reason to display a pop-up error (or any error really) in that instance. I'll change this when I get the chance. I still prefer to leave the error that pops up when it first tries to log in. That would only display if you opened your browser with no network connection. I might change that to an alert or something though. BadDogSprocket wrote: I am using ymnotifier 0.9.2 on Mozilla Firefox 1.0.6. Great Extension, but it has one annoying problem. I have one request though. I use a mail client to download my Yahoo mail, instead of going to my Yahoo inbox. It would be very nice that the user has the option of launching an external application (An extra button on the notification pop-up maybe or something like that). Of course, he/she should be able to select his mail client Thanks From morac99-firefox at yahoo.com Tue Nov 22 11:50:57 2005 From: morac99-firefox at yahoo.com (morac99-firefox@yahoo.com) Date: Tue Nov 22 14:52:27 2005 Subject: [Ymnotifier] Yahoo Mail notifier request In-Reply-To: Message-ID: <20051122195057.95222.qmail@web50915.mail.yahoo.com> I'll add this to the wish list. It's not as straight forward as it would seem though and there are some higher priority things I need to fix first so it might be a while before I can add this.
