I figured it is safe enough to try a fresh install after backing up
the current directory, so did that anyway and find that everything is
back to normal.
Just FYI that the uninstall of vimperator left another artifact too,
it restored the menu bar, but the Help menu was missing in that. Now
it is back anyway, so again, just FYI.
