I don't think that FF3 will reset the settings. He meant, when you
install firefox, and vimperator 0.6pre in it, the problem might go away
(or it might not, just guessing).
But even if you don't have a backup, try to start with a clean profile
and see if there is a problem (you can create as many profiles as you
want in parallel with firefox -P)

Strange, after an uninstall (and restart), that should really be back to
normal.

You are right, that vimperator modifies the statusbar, so *some*
extensions which rely on that *might* have problems. Also the space
below the statusbar actually is a normal textbox. but some extension
might not expect that, causing a problem.
