[Vimperator] focused item on page load

I just discovered vimperator and think it is a phenomenal Firefox
extension. However, I have noticed a couple bugs and annoyances that
don't seem to have been mentioned yet on this list.

1) Some web pages with text boxes automatically give the focus to a
text box when the page loads, instead of leaving vimperator in normal
mode, e.g. the google home page, wikipedia.org, and the bugzilla
search page. I would very much prefer to always be left in normal
mode when a page finishes loading. Is there a simple fix for this?

2) There are some weird interactions with gmail, the simplest of which
has also to do with focused items (I think). Before I installed
vimperator, when I would open gmail, I would have to hit <TAB> at
least once before my gmail keystrokes would work, which may well be
some kind of gmail bug or feature (I'm not sure which). Now with
vimperator, when I open gmail, many of the vimperator normal-mode
keystrokes (such a page motion commands) will not work until I go into
escaped mode with 'I', then hit <TAB>, and then leave escaped mode
with <ESC>. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? What is
gmail giving the focus to that is intercepting keystrokes and why is
this interfering with vimperator's normal mode?

Also, quickhints with gmail appear buggy to the point of being useless
for me, but I assume this relates to other quickhints bugs that will
be fixed in the future.

Thanks for any advice.
