I tried the CVS version, but both issues still exist. I normally open a
new tab for :help anyway. The real problem is not getting hints on
XHTML pages, at least not on the pages at my web site that are XHTML.
I experimented with the way my XHTML pages are served. There are three
different types they can be served as. The preferred type, which is
what I've been using is "application/xthml+xml". Vimperator beeps when
hitting the quick hints keys, and :help doesn't work on these pages.
The second best option is "text/xml", and with pages like this,
Vimperator doesn't beep when hitting a quick hint key, but the hints
don't show up either. :help does work.
The final, and least preferred method is "text/html". When I serve my
XHTML pages this way, everything in vimperator works fine.
So the issue doesn't appear to be XHTML itself, but the way the web
server is serving the content. If it's anything but "text/html",
vimperator has a problem figuring it out.
I hope that helps a little.
Cheers,
Chris
