Yeah, it's nicely inline and is very logical.

Maybe I personally would still prefer numbers, since I'm' used to
it and it's clear and quick for me, when I pref 'f' my hands are
already ready to hit the two numbers within a 'wink' etc. Only 10
options rather than a-z. But that (your) solution might is very
good too I can imagine, especially when you can often guess what
it will be, isn't it.  Probably a matter of taste finally.

I just tested to use only 4 keys as hintchars: asdf. works also
quite nice. 3 chars to hit, but it's very fast/automatic too.
