I wanted this behavior for some time, but was too lazy. ;)
But now I added it to the search engine list (at least until we support
all firefox searches),

:open lucky vimperator

will open vimperator, 

so, use the 'lucky' search (or :open l<tab>) to do lucky searches.

available in CVS and 0.4 when it is released.
