It's based on Thunderbird 1.5a2, which will probably have few string differences with the upcoming beta. You can get the .xpi by following the enormous link at , and the .jar at . The .xpi package isn't working well with Thunderbird right now, and I'm currently trying to figure out why -- I'm new to Firefox/Thunderbird 1.5's extension format (the last extension I created was for 0.7 or so). However, if you rename $FIREFOX_HOME/chrome/en-US.jar temporarily, download my .jar file into that directory, and rename it en-US.jar, it should work just fine. The package is actually only about 75% complete. Most aspects of Thunderbird that you'll encounter have been translated, though, with the exception of some preference panels. Because my approach was to translate the entire package in order, using a plaintext editor with a built-in Vietnamese IME, not skipping any files along the way, I ended up translating many an unused .dtd or.properties file -- these could go towards a localization of Firefox or SeaMonkey, though. I would be much more complete with my project, except that I had many relatives in New Orleans when Katrina hit, and we were kind of busy trying to get in touch with them this week, since we didn't know if any of them had evacuated. I think we've just accounted for all of them now, thank goodness, but between Sunday and Wednesday, I didn't make much progress at all. After rushing for a couple hours last night, I have the .jar file up on the server now so you can take a look, and I'll try to get the .xpi working by tonight hopefully. Earlier in the project, I had to revise my project's goal for two reasons: there were already a few efforts (some possibly ongoing) to translate Firefox into Vietnamese. To avoid any conflict with their projects, I switched to translating Thunderbird. In addition, just as I was beginning, I read a comment at Bugzilla by Axel Hecht, stating that they "would like to land new locales" by the time they branched for 1.5. (They branched on the 13th .) I didn't communicate all that much with my mentor, David Boswell, since my project was more linguistic than code. I am grateful to him that he stood by, ready to help, and posted the occasional comment to vi's mailing list or my blog, making sure that things were working out alright. Despite these small hitches, I'm very grateful to have been given the opportunity to work on the Summer of Code. It was the motivation I needed to finally do a translation for the Mozilla project, and it gave me a chance to work with CVS, which I had never done before. In the near future, I plan to finish translating the entire package, correct the occasional error, and make my project website helpful for Vietnamese speakers interested in Thunderbird. Later on, I intend to work on integrating a Vietnamese IME into Thunderbird, which would make it easy for Vietnamese speakers to write in their own language (somewhat necessary, I figure). In short, I don't plan on stopping with the end of SoC.
