This problem is there since the commit "fixed 21203" in settings.js , Revision 1.70 . I have a default installation so there are no settings for Autoconfiguration, well just the default one coming with thunderbird. As a workaround the value for autoSync can be set via prefs.js directly. Just want to let you know that there is still a some-kind-of-annoying problem which should be fixed before releasing a new version. Maybe somebody out there have already an idea, where to look at. In any case I have already started with debugging. -- Mit freundlichen Gr?ssen evice GmbH Open Source-Systemhaus - Frank Pavlic Neckarstrasse 31 - 72160 Horb am Neckar mail : f.pavlic at evice.de tel. : +49-(0)7451-552588-11 mobil: +49-(0)160-6098793 skype: frank_pavlic Diese Email enth?lt vertrauliche Daten und/oder rechtlich gesch?tzte Informationen. I've thought to fix it pretty soon but haven't found the real problem yet just the commit causing it. I open a bugzilla , maybe the better way to not forget the problem. The sync kolab add on to Thunderbird seems to be exactly the solution she needs. However, I have been unable, after several tries, to get it to work. I tried both the version o f Sync Kolab that is on the Mozilla add-on site and the nightly build that I got from http://synckolab.mozdev.org/ (My description below relates to my most recent attempt using my desktop pc. I also had a lack of success after several tries using a laptop running Vista.) I did NOT install Lightning as I am interested only in syncing contacts. I describe below exactly how I tried to install, configure, and use it. I would greatly appreciate any help in getting it to work. I rebooted my computer: a Dell optiplex desktop running service pack 3 of Windows XP with an Intel Pentium 4, 2.8 ghz, and 3 GB of Ram. I opened Thunderbird Profile Manager and created a new profile. (Thunderbird version is: version 2.0.0.23 (20090812) ) I set up one IMAP mail account which is hosted on a shared server from Lunarpages.com. That account has a folder called "kolab" that I had set up to hold the contacts. It is empty and is located as a subfolder of INBOX. This is the highest level that I am able to create a new folder at. I sucessfully tested my ability to send and receive mail. This automatically entered one contact to my Thunderbird "Personal Address Book" and I manually added 2 others. I closed and then restarted Thunderbird. Using tools/addons I installed syncolab-Nightly.xpi (that I downloaded today 11-7-09). I clicked the "Restart Thunderbird" button on the Add-ons dialog which showed Sync Kolab 1.0.200907101435 - Restart to complete the installation. I went to the Tools/Sync Kolab Options menu item which opened the SyncKolab setup wizard. I entered a display-name ("skjh") and clicked Next. On the next screen, I had only the one account to choose from in the drop down box so I clicked Next. The next screen "Specify which information" had only one active box, Sync Contacts. I left it checked and clicked Next. On the next screen, I selected the (blank) "kolab" folder as my contact folder. "Personal Address Book" was the selected address book and "Xml/Kolab2" was the other selection. I left the "Save to Imap Folder" checked and clicked the Next button. On the next screen, I clicked the "Finish" button. This screen told me that I had successfully setup a new configuration and could start the sync by choosing 'Tools-Start Synckolab." This now brought up a dialog box which I believe simply confirmed the settings I had just entered (Personal Address Book, kolab Contact Folder, xml/Kolab2 format, save to Imap folder checked, Sync Contacts checked. I clicked ok. Now, I went to the Thuderbird Tools/Start Synckolab menu. Something flashed and Thunderbird closed itself. I restared Thunderbird. I verified that nothing had been written to the server's kolab folder. I again clicked on the menu item Tools/Start Synckolab. This time I got a dialog box titled: Synchronizing with Kolab Folders with these entries: Processing: none Curent Acton: Done, you can close this window now! Message: 0/0 An empty id | Status | Content box A Current Progress status bar filled completely with green status indicators below which was another progress status bar also filled with green status indicators. The error console had one error entry: "msktbirdComponent has no properties" and this link: chrome://msktbird/content/mail-msktbird.js line 2486 (This apparently is a McAfee anti-spam message. I don't think this was there on some of my earlier attempts.) I cleared the error and tried Start Synckolab again and the error did not recur but I had the same result as described above with respect to the dialog box: "Synchronizing with Kolab Folders."
