Hallo,

I'm new to synckolab, and the following general questions:

- For me it seems that synckolab can be used independant of a Kolab2
  server. Is there any advantage to use a Kolab2 server in conjuction
  with synckolab?

- I have not fully understood how to map individual mozilla lightning
  calendars to the synckolab (imported) calendars? How to use more
  than one Kolab2 *and* display the events within in lightning in
  different colours?

The advantage of kolab2 server is a fully fledged groupware. If you dont 
need it, you dont need it. the functionality of synckolab (being able to 
sync) is not affected of a kolab server.
To create small groupware functionality you can simply use shared imap 
accounts between multiple users (obviously the configuration isnt as 
fine graded as with a kolab).

create a lightning calendar A - then in the config, map it to an imap 
folder. thats it.

I suggest creating a test account and trying a few different 
configurations to see how synckolab behaves to accomplish what you need.
