Subject: [Synckolab] Synckolab corrupting my tasks under OS X
Message-ID: <48958A9E.6030705@gmail.com>
Hi all..
I just discovered Kolab and Synckolab, and it really suits me perfectly
storing contact, calendar and tasks inside IMAP folders.
However, there seems to be a few bugs that corrupt my Kolab data files.
I created the Kolab IMAP folders in Thunderbird 2.0.0.16/Lightning
0.8/Synckolab 1.0.1 under Windows XP x64 SP2, and synchronized a few
contacts and a few tasks.
Then I went to my Mac (OS X 10.4.11) with the exact same configuration
(Thunderbird 2.0.0.16/Lightning 0.8/Synckolab 1.0.1) and synchronized.
This corrupted my task XML files, and SyncKolab can't parse them anymore.
This is an example of the corrupted XML file contents that SyncKolab
writes to the Kolab store each time I add a new task from my OS X computer:
---

---
Just check the XML declaration and it's obvious why it can't parse the file.
So each time I synchronize with the "Sync Kolab" button, it deletes all
my present tasks and displays the message "unparsable" in the leftmost
column.
I looked through BugZilla quickly, but didn't find any open bug that
looked like this one.
To me it's really severe... since it deleted all my present tasks when
it couldn't parse the data in my Kolab tasks folder.

I ran into a problem recently, running synckolab 1.0.1 on Linux and
Windows. I have two Thunderbird installations, for which I want to keep
them synced together with my kolab server. I first synced my Linux box
to the Kolab server. Everything OK. But when I synced the Windows box to
the Kolab server, I lost many calendar items. I finally been able to
restore everything on the server by erasing everything on the server,
and then resyncing from the Linux box. Not quite an easy task for many
people.
Wouldn't it be easy to have a function (well, a couple of functions) to
force the update from or to the server? Some syncing products offer
these features, and they're proven useful.
Other than that, why the Windows-to-Kolab server erased many entries?

I installed SyncKolab 1.0.1 on thunderbird 2.0.0.16 on linux. I added
an imap folder and synced up to my personal address book during config.
Now I am trying to delete contacts from my address book, but every
time I sync (either manually or automatically) it keeps doing a local
add on the deleted contacts and replacing them. How do I fix this?

No idea if this is the problem or not, but I noticed that when I created
a folder in the root of my IMAP account, everything worked fine. If
syncKolab uses a sub-folder deeper in the IMAP folder tree, then it has
the problem you describe.
Anyone else see this problem?

Well this sucks for me, since dreamhost won't let me make any mail
folders any higher than under the INBOX.

So is there any way to get this to work?

I think my provider is similar, but in that case INBOX is the root so
you might be ok. Where is the folder you were trying to use? Was it
something like INBOX/Some/Folder or INBOX/Folder ?

I made the folder addresses-xml under Inbox, so it becomes
INBOX.addresses-xml

It should just work. Did you select Save to Imap Folder in SyncKolab Options?
Only one local address book, right? (in use by t-bird and synckolab)

Save to IMAP is checked. Only one local address book. I was hoping to
use this among multiple machines later (the whole reason for wanting to
imap my contacts) but for now I can't get it to work right on just my

Please don't top-post. I'm not sure why other list members don't
enforce this, but I must at least mention it. In life it's ok, in
maillists - evil.
Honestly, I only just tested this today. My t-bird environment was
dated, so I updated lightning and synckolab, then exited t-bird. I
removed all synckolab prefs and db files, then defined my s.k.
options.
And this is the only Address book/Imap client, correct?

Hello everybody!
I am running SyncKolab 1.0.1 on Thunderbird 2.0.0.16 (Linux). I ticked
the "Offline" button on the lower left of the Thunderbird-Window,
however I am prompted for passwords every now and then. Does SyncKolab
respect the "Offline"-button? My other Add-Ons (Enigmail, Lightning,
MoreFunktionsForAddressBook, Purge!, and ThunderBirthDay) don't seem to
be candidates for trying to go online...
If not, I think it would be a good idea to not try to synchronize when
Thunderbird is offline...
Best,
Sebastian.

Subject: [Synckolab] Sync problems
Message-ID: <48B1E87A.1040205@yahoo.de>
Hello
I started using synckolab as new bee.
I would like a good user manual.
Now I have synckolab running on one laptop. Testing, ore finding out how
to use.
As netscape / aim mail user I can synchronise...but not really.
If I add addresses, they are synchronised. If I delete addresses in the
address book they are put back from the imap during synchronisation.
Who can help?
