I've updated the searchsidebar.dev file with the file you sent. The latest development version is always available on the mirrors through the following URL: http://download.mozdev.org/searchsidebar/searchsidebar.dev (Just change the file extension back to .xpi to install) I can't wait to see single search working again. I'll do some testing and get back to you, should I find any serious issues. When you feel it is ready, let me know and I'll release the 0.1.5 version. Would you like to have CVS access to the project? Thanks again for all of the great work you've provided to this project, Matthew From dazzle at edazzle.net Wed Jul 6 11:31:58 2005 From: dazzle at edazzle.net (Paul Millar) Date: Wed Jul 6 05:42:20 2005 Subject: [SearchSidebar] Searchsidebar updated 0.1.5 In-Reply-To: <42CB0B48.9040503@webnugget.com> References: <42C38700.8020808@edazzle.net> <42C9686A.8020202@webnugget.com> <42C969E6.8020108@edazzle.net> <42CB0B48.9040503@webnugget.com> Message-ID: <42CBA50E.60703@edazzle.net> Hi, Thanks for the access request. I am already working on version 0.1.6 and have integrated the search with the existing Firefox search box and searching using keywords from the address bar - just a few minor bugs to iron out. I have updated the install.js as well and the install.rdf min version to 1.0 Also in Deer Park you can have a searchplugins folder in the XPI and any search plugins in it will be automatically installed. I was looking at including Firefox/Mozilla specific ones - but would have to look at some of them to make sure they can give sidebar results. Any thoughts on plugins to include with the install? cheers, Paul Matthew A. McGuigan wrote: > Paul, > > I changed the creator to "The Search Sidebar Project" and have > uploaded the files. I hope we can promote the extension on mycroft as soon as you reach version 1.0. For me, this is the last reason not to completely switch to Firefox. And, this will be a good addition for all the plugins over at mycroft capable of displaying the results in the sidebar. This will make the work put in the plugins to make them compatible with the searchsidebar even when most of the users are now using Firefox not a waste of time. Once again, great, great work. The main additions is integration with Firefox's searchbox and searching from the address bar. The code has been significantly changed in this release to get it to integrate with Firefox. New Features/Changes: * Next/Previous buttons now work as expected when specified in the .src file * New option on preferences panel to switch on/off auto search sidebar toggle * If sidebar is closed and auto is on the search sidebar will automatically open and display results if available * Integration with Firefox searchbox and location bar * When viewing multi-search results from the main browser window by searchengine it now loads the actual URL rather than scraped HTML * Install.rdf min browser version is 1.0 and max is 1.0+ * Improved install.js for uninstall features * Changed default preferences to extensions.advancedsearch to avoid conflict with existing preferences * Added searchplugins folder to XPI for auto-install of searchplugins in Deer Park Alpha 1 - any ideas for search plugins (will need next/previous buttons and sidebar results) to include for when Firefox 1.1 is ready? Known problems: * Next/previous buttons do not work as expected when searching from the address bar (not sure of a fix) * When clicking on multi-search results in main browser window no HTML is displayed in the frame below (not sure of a fix) * If .src file specifies results tag but is wrong and no results displayed in sidebar the next search will not provide results (should be fixable) * If in multi search and you navigate away from the multi search main page and then go back in the history then search results disappear from the sidebar (should be fixable) If anyone is interested in testing version 0.1.6 over the weekend then let me know and I will e-mail you the XPI. Of particular note I would like this tested on non-Windows PC's (Linux, MacOS X, etc.) and every attempt made to break it. Send e-mails to the searchsidebar@mozdev.org mailing list with any bugs found or queries etc. Once 0.1.6 is out of the way the next step will be new features, especially a right click context menu for the sidebar. If anyone has any ideas for new features then send them into the mailing list. thanks, Paul http://www.edazzle.net ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program. You can download the development version from: http://searchsidebar.mozdev.org/installation.html if you have not already done so. The next development version will be 0.1.7 and then I will up the releases to 0.2 because I will be adding extra features, mainly a right click context menu to the sidebar. Also do you think it's worth trying to get a release announcement sent to the mycroft mailing list to widen the testing of the sidebar in Firefox. I already know the autotoggle sidebar function does not work in Deer Park Alpha 2 which is one think I will be looking at for the 0.2 releases. I will also be looking to add an entry for it on addons.mozilla.org. When enough fixes have been introduced and the context menu I think we could be looking at a 1.0 release soon. cheers, Paul http://www.edazzle.net From localhost at rw-l.nl Thu Jul 14 19:10:15 2005 From: localhost at rw-l.nl (localhost) Date: Thu Jul 14 12:20:48 2005 Subject: [SearchSidebar] Re: Ooops! The latest one kind of breaks my Firefox. I want to test some plugins and how they show the results. I notice that some plugins do work in the Suite and not in Firefox. There should be an option for turning off auto-toggle sidebar on search results. Untick the option and it should no longer open automatically if search results are found. One feature to implement would be a preferences menu option under the tools menu for the Searchsidebar.
