The reason I ask is that my system remembers the engines that are checked and the categories appear within the sidebar here using Firefox 1.0 on Linux. I have added the up/down dialogue to the buttons on a local copy, they will be included in the next dev file. I use the same: Firefox 1.0 on Linux. I first thought it might be because of the theme I use. But I tried several ones including the default theme. Maybe something with wrong file permissions? I also do not see the up and down arrows; however, I do see the buttons with which the arrows are supposed to be associated. In addition, I'm having problems with my search results within custom made Categories. I created a "Shopping" Category and placed all shopping related engines in the category. When I do a search on that category, the only search results I see on the left is if I have the buy.com engine selected. The other engines do not display on the left. They do, however, display okay on the right main pane when I view the "combined results" dropdown to select a particular engine. For example, if I had also selected "Amazon.com" in my search and then I select that engine in the "combined results" dropdown, I then see the Amazon.com results page. However, I never see the results of Amazon.com on the left in searchsidebar fashion before I select Amazon.com from the "combine results" dropdown. In addition, when I go back to the custom search after performing a search in that category, I've observed that a couple of engines are ALWAYS selected even though I hadn't selected them in my previous search in that category. For example, if I do a search within that custom "Shopping" category and select just "Buy.com", perform the search, and then go back to the Category by selecting "Shopping" from the Category dropdown, then not only is Buy.com selected, but two other engines are as well: "Amazon.com" and "engadget". This is ALWAYS a consistent behavior. Actually, I just tested this for the default "All Engines" category, and that search does something very similar. It only displays the results for "google". If I don't select that engine, perform a search, and then go back to that Category, then "Google" is still selected. If I select "Google" and perform a search, the results are displayed for that engine correctly. But if I select any other engine, in addition or in place of that engine, then I see none of the results from any other engine, except for google if that had been selected. However, I can see the results of the other selected engines one at a time if I choose that engine from the "combined results" dropdown. Is anyone else experiencing this? Jaxim --- "Matthew A. I don't know what would have changed either. The problem you are still experiencing is probably a result of plugins that were not coded properly as well as plugins that have fell behind in maintenance. I know that some of my own plugins have fell behind in maintenance and no longer return sidebar results. I will get around to fixing them soon. Please note that since the introduction of Firefox the quality of search-plugins has fallen. One of the goals of the Advanced Search-Sidebar was to provide Firefox users incentive to write properly coded search-plugins. Firefox without Advanced SearchSidebar only makes use of a limited part of the search-plugin code. In Firefox it is acceptable to use an incomplete search-plugin; therefore, many do not take the time to complete their plugins. You can post problems with search-plugins to the mycroft mailing list http://mycroft.mozdev.org/ . They are a great group of people that and are usually overwhelmed with requests, but they will appreciate any help or feedback you can provide. Dirk, The category information is stored in your profile. The file is called search.rdf . Check permissions on that file, but since it is in the profile it should not be a permission problem. Does it happen on new profiles as well? Regards, Mat From mmcguigan at webnugget.com Sun Feb 6 20:07:32 2005 From: mmcguigan at webnugget.com (Matthew A. I've also added some locale files for de-AT, es-ES, fr-FR in hopes of attracting some more interest in the project. This months status reports are coming out soon, so I'm going ahead with the release of 0.1.4 based on what I have today. I've updated some of the wording on the website and have submitted the status report for inclusion. But when I try to open it, XP doesn't know what to do with the file .xpi file. I've got lots of other extensions installed, I just can't install this one. Help! The site was being updated for the new release and the mirrors may not have updated at the time you were trying. If you need to save the .xpi file, you will have to open the .xpi file in Firefox, in order to install. I'm sorry for any inconvenience. Thank you for your interest. Message-ID: <009c01c510b7$732aede0$3e1790cf@home> Hello, Is there a way to add other search engines? I'd like to be able to add sites like pricegrabber.com, cnet.com, mysimon.com, and any other site that's good for searching for the best price on items. Left clicking directly on an engine that shows in the side bar only checks and unchecks the box. I've tried right clicking and double clicking on each engine, but nothing happens. I've gone back to the extensions list and clicked, right-clicked, double clicked on it and still nothing happens. What could I be doing wrong? Help!
