You're right - but this is already reality, as most feed readers have
auto-updating.
Feeds are already taking up a lot of traffic (40% for German IT site
Golem.de; http://www.golem.de/0602/43494.html).
That's why many people are pointing to FeedTree
(http://trac.feedtree.net/project/wiki/FeedTree).
btw: I guess for most feeds updating once an hour or less will suffice. But
users might not know or care about that... So if you really wanna go
overboard, you could have Sage analyze how often it needs to update without
missing a headline (this should be more or less constant for most sites).
