Then you can either
a) rely on Firefox caching system (i.e. just attempt to download the
photos the normal way - nsIChannel or whatever you use) and configure
your server to let Firefox cache the images)
b) save the images in the "local settings" dir - ProfLD key to the
directory service, iirc.
