While developing it's easier to work with files that are not zipped. For
Firefox 1.06, just install your extension and then edit the following
line for your extension in <profile>/chrome/chrome.rdf:

c:baseURL="jar:file:///home/jagrboom/.mozilla/firefox/31xf90vd.default/extensions/%7B1d5f775d-842e-4fd3-8e34-c8d77b3f34ba%7D/chrome/bookmarkshome.jar!/content/bookmarkshome/"

Remove the 'jar:' and change the file url to the directory you want to
work in:

c:baseURL="file:///home/jagrboom/mozdev/bookmarkshome/chrome/bookmarkshome/content/"

Save the following four lines as user.js in your profile directory:

user_pref("javascript.options.showInConsole", true );
user_pref("nglayout.debug.disable_xul_cache", true );
user_pref("browser.dom.window.dump.enabled", true );
user_pref("javascript.options.strict", true );

the disable_xul_cache pref allows you to see changes without restarting.
