On Mac you just press command+shift+4 and drag the cursor over the area 
you want to take a shot of and it saves a file to the desktop. Or 3 for 
fullscreen and for a window use the spacebar as well.

On Linux, there's probably a bunch of different screenshot programs I 
don't know of.
