Create a URI (using nsIIOService) and get the filename from nsIURI. 
Unfortunately, it gives you only the path, not the filename, but that 
removes most of the troubles of the non-trivial URI parsing already.

Note that "foo" in <http://www.example.com/bar/foo> may be a file or a 
directory on the server, in the latter case most servers will redirect 
to <http://www.example.com/bar/foo/>.
