Most likely, it is an incompatible extension. If the drive letter
happens to stay the same between the places that it does work and
changes on that demo laptop, that would be the issue. There are a
number of extensions that are currently incompatible with Portable
Firefox including GreaseMonkey, CustomizeGoogle and similar extensions
that save files within your profile. A later release of the Portable
Firefox Launcher will fix these incompatibilities. There is a beta
launcher that fixes them described here:

Extensions are your most likely culprit.
