Doug
While respecting your opinion, I'm afraid that I won't reconsider (or won't
change my position anyway)
Reasons...
I see no reason why I (as the only person working on mycroft at the moment)
should not profit.
In so far as others may disagree then they are of course able to start a new
project or edit the plugins as they see fit.
The original distributions of Firefox have affiliate links supporting MoFo
(or MoCo or whatever it is these days) in the Amazon plugins.
(I'll admit I don't like the third party tracking too much but Amazon are
about the only site with an in house system)
The alternatives would be for adsense links or donation button but these to
me would be less productive and be asking more of users.
I'm currently spending at least an hour or two a day on mycroft (new plugin
submissions, plugin judges, site improvements, mailing list spam, category
work and more)

(If anyone wants to start an ethical debate then please mail me direct or
file it as a bug and post link to mailing list so that we don't force it on
mailing list subscribers.
But I'll say know that I don't believe that open source dictates
non-profit - I wouldn't charge for plugins... but I have no problems at all
with them containing affiliate links.
Save for the fact that if you enter a blank search there is a bug that gives
you the wrong page - see
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322934)
QUOTE:
I don't think plugins containing affiliate links should be hosted by
Mycroft. I don't believe anyone should profit when these plugins are used.
Charles, I hope you'll reconsider your position on plugins with affiliate
links.
Thanks,
Doug
