Gary,
Yeah, I commented out the 'mozile.useSchema("lib/xhtml.rng");' line
when I didn't mean to. I've fixed that now.
The other problems you're having are probably because you're using
the 0.8.0a1 release, and I'm using current code in CVS. So I've
packaged the current code and you can get it here:

Sorry for the trouble. I haven't worked with Mozile much for a couple
of months, so I've missed some problems that should have been obvious
to me. But I do expect to get back to Mozile development soon.
