Moin,

I have to set a 'secret' header to access a news page. I can do this by 
using 'Modify Headers', but then the header is added for every http page I 
request. Even from other sites. But this may be a secutity hole.

I thought about to write a simple perl script that modify the header, but 
because http as well as https is used the modification have to be done inside 
firefox.

Any hint?

User selects "Tools>modify headers"

nothing happens.

what SHOULD happen IMHO is that the "modify headers" window is brought to the front.

(seen with version 0.6.4)

that "feature" is on of the most confusing I EVER met in a software.
why should the behaviour change only because the settings window is gone, this is contrary to any preferences dialog a user knows and is used to.

I suggest to
a) scrap that feature completely
b) set "always on" as a default

I have seen a few people already having problems with that, so please take my criticism as wanting to improve that really helpful extension

Hi, I like your idea with this powerful tool witch in some situations is 
very useful!
But I have a suggestion for a future update:
Idea is to create a filter by "URL" or "URL Regex" to use custom headers 
for different web servers.
Examples:
Domain                     -  Action - Name         -  Value
www.mypage.com    -  modify - User-Agent - Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 
6.0; Windows NT 5.1;)
www.otherpage.com -  modify - User-Agent - Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; 
Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009021910 Firefox/3.0.7

Hi Feng,

The problem here is that the HTTP specification only allows ASCII encoded characters.   This means Japanese characters are not supported in HTTP headers.

I have a feature in the roadmap to be able to add headers for specific URLs.  There is no ETA for when this will be implemented, but I'm hoping it will be this year.

Good idea.  I'm not sure this can be achieved as Firefox provides the window model.  I'll take a look and see if there is anything I can do.  Create an enhancement request in Bugzilla if you like.

Hi Gernot,

In the 4 years I've been working on this, you are only the second person to mention this.

The idea behind this feature is that many people (including me) don't want to have to remember to disable all the header during regular browsing.  I use the extension for mobile web development and only need to modify headers when doing dev or testing.  When doing regular web browsing I prefer to close the Modify Headers window and know that it is no longer modifying headers.

However, some people asked to have an 'Always On' feature added so that headers are modified when the window is closed.

Once I get the URL specific profiles worked out, this problem is going to go away as users will be able to enable/disable header modification based on each profile.  This will remove the need for 'Always On'.
