Someone else reported this bug a few weeks back, and I was able to fix it.

If you are using Thunderbird 1.5, try downloading the newest version of
the extension found here:

http://downloads.mozdev.org/minimizetotray/minimizetotray/minimizetotray.trunk.2006013006.xpi
