Hello,
Mozilla Archive Format version 0.14.3 is now officially available
for download at .
Changes from 0.14.2 to 0.14.3
* Change: MAF is now able to decode correctly the original page
title stored inside MHTML files, even when it contains
international characters.

Message-ID: <1249305916.v2.mailanyonewebmail-243836@fuse50>
Hello everyone. I've just subscribed the the mailing list and hope I'm
doing this correctly. Apologies if not.
Docs say there are two other add-ons which integrate with MAF for the
purpose of offering to save an MHTNL file using the page's title as
filename. They are 'File Title' by Pavel Cvrcek and 'Title Save', by gm.
Unfortunately neither appear to be maintained anymore and do not support
Fx 3.5.
I request that MAF adopts the capability and inserts the webpage title
into the SaveAs dropdown list as the default, bumping the usual Fx name
option down the list or removing it altogether.
Thanks for consideration ... and for a great add-on!, Jonathan

Welcome to the MAF mailing list :-)
This is the proper place for support questions and feature requests.

Yes, it seems that both extensions have not been updated for a long
time. The fact is that both have the potential to work correctly under
Firefox 3.5, without any modification, but only "File Title" received
the so-called "compatibility update" that allows the extension to
install in Firefox 3.5.
In order for the compatibility update to work, "File Title" should be
installed while on-line, or better from the Firefox Add-ons website
().

I'll consider integrating this support in a future version of MAF,
if the two extensions will remain unmaintained (by the way, this is
a feature that LuDean already requested some time ago).
It's also not excluded that we'll see this implemented or supported
in Firefox itself, even though this change is currently blocked by
some other work in the same area.

Yes, I was actually about to suggest this myself.
Because of the title saving thing I am still using version 0.8.7.1, as far
as I know the last one that would save the page under its title.
Of course I would prefer to update to the up-to-date version, but I would
really miss this.
I am using this extension an awful lot. During the last years I have saved
far more than 10000 pages.
I am using an Autohotkey script to save a webpage by pressing a single
hotkey to the last active Windows folder.
(Since this is so fast and easy I save almost everything worth keeping,
dozens of pages a day).
However this script is a bit awkward since Autohotkey has no way to control
Firefox menus.
So I am suggesting a HOTKEY to bring up the 'Save page in archive' dialog.
Finally I'd like to have 'Archive operation complete' alert window back,
since my script relies on it to know whether the
page saving worked.
@ Paolo: I know this is a lot to ask. I greatly appreciate your effort. As I
said I am depending on this,
and I would not have updated to FF3 if it weren't for you. Thank you again.

Just to avoid confusion, saving a page using its title *is* possible
with the latest version of MAF, and this option will continue to exist
in the future. The feature just isn't integrated in the MAF extension,
you have to install "File Title" from the Firefox Add-ons website
(). Given how easy it
is to find and install an extension nowadays, it doesn't seem too
much to ask, until the feature is integrated (if appropriate).
I don't remember that a version of MAF named 0.8.7.1 could save with
the file title while newer versions couldn't. That part should work
exactly in the same way. Please try experimental version 0.14 with
File Title; maybe the problems you experienced in the past were
caused by conflicts with other extensions, which version 0.14 is
designed to avoid.

Did you try accessing Firefox menus with the keyboard? I.e. ALT+T, M, G
(valid on a clean installation with default preferences and an English
locale; the actual keys may vary on other setups).
CTRL+S (ordinary "Save As") can also save with the MAFF format.
Adding a hotkey is a good idea, but it has to be customizable or at
least it must be possible to disable it, since it's too easy to
generate a conflict with another extension or with another hotkey
in a different locale. I retained Alt+M to open the "Archives"
dialog, because it already existed, but for example that key is
unusable in the Italian locale since it opens a menu instead of
the dialog.
I think this is a feature that's certainly worth having, but I have
no plans to work on this in the short time. Of course, if in the
meantime someone submits a proper patch, it would be welcome :-)

The save interface was totally redesigned to be integrated in
the download manager of Firefox 3, and I'm afraid the alert box
doesn't make sense anymore for the vast majority of MAF users.
The best I can do for you, if you're technically inclined, is to
give you directions on how to customize the MAF source code for
your case, if you can't find another solution. You'll have to
maintain such changes yourself, though.
Best regards,
Paolo

Subject: [Maf] Installing MAF causes all save options including its own to
do nothing.
Message-ID:
Hi there, thanks for your hard work on MAF. I've used it before, years
ago, and I hope to use it again. I'm finally rebuilding my dream Firefox config. Unfortunately,
here and now it seems that installing MAF breaks my
ability to save anything.
I'm on Windows XP SP3, fully updated, Firefox 3.5.1 build 20090715094852.
Currently installed extensions, list generated by FEBE:
Autohide
DownThemAll
DownloadHelper
DownloadSort
FEBE
FeedSidebar
FileTitle
Flashblock
FoxyProxy
ImageZoom
ImgLikeOpera
InFormEnter
MenuEditor
MozillaArchiveFormat (disabled)
NightlyTesterTools
NoScript
SaveImageInFolder
SiteLauncher
TabMixPlus
TamperData
WebDeveloper
All extensions are updated to their latest official versions. Sorry about the mess. As you can see, it would be impossible to
troubleshoot all combinations. I'm hoping the symptoms will give a
lead. When I install MAF into the above environment and restart Firefox, the "Save Page As..." item is still available in the File menu. The "Save Page in Archive..." option is also added properly to the File menu. The "Mozilla Archive Format" submenu is also added properly to the Tools menu, as are all its items.
All of these items are in black text, not "grayed out", and available to click...but clicking on them causes no action except the menu disappearing. Maybe a momentary disk hit. No file picker comes up, and no error or other dialog box. No file gets created. The browser acts as if I've completed the save and wish to continue browsing. Ctrl-S has no effect.
If I have MAF installed, uninstall MAF and restart Firefox, its entries go away and my saving works properly again. The same happens if I have MAF installed, disable MAF in the "Add-ons" dialog and restart. Is there anything I can do to narrow this down further or get useful diagnostic information?
Best regards,
Hypocee

Hello,
thank you for the detailed report. The first thing you should do in this
case is to update MAF to the latest version 0.14.3, installing it from
. The latest version is designed to solve many
potential compatibility issues, and there is a chance that upgrading
will solve the problem entirely.
If upgrading isn't enough, you should try to disable other extensions.
A conflict between Download Sort and MAF 0.13.4 has already been
reported, so you should try to disable that extension first. If that
is not the problem, you can start by disabling half of your other
extensions at once and then restart Firefox, at which point you will
be able to understand if the problem resides in the extensions that
are still enabled or in the other half. You can repeat the process
until you find the exact extension that's giving trouble.
If you solve the issue, please let us know if updating MAF was enough
or which extension you had to disable, for future reference.
Hope this helps,
Paolo

Yes, I will add this feature in a future version of MAF. I don't know

0.16 will be able to do the batch conversion.

Subject: [Maf] [ANN] MAF 0.15.0 (experimental) released
Message-ID: <4A9BE923.9090706@amadzone.org>
Hello,
Mozilla Archive Format version 0.15.0 is now officially available
for download at .
This version is experimental (not included in automatic updates,
some strings are not localized) and provides several enhancements
over MAF 0.14.3.
MAF 0.15.0 has the following user-visible improvements over MAF 0.14.3:
* An icon in the address bar or in the status bar provides quick
access to the original location from which an archived page was
saved, as well as the date of the save operation.
* In the "Save As" dialog on Windows, the default file extension is
now omitted from the suggested file name when saving. In most
cases, this prevents double extensions from appearing in the
names of the saved archives.
* Now the Preferences menu items and button bring the dialog to
front if it is already open.
* In the file selection dialog of the Save In Archive commands, now
the default extension for "All Files" is set appropriately on
Windows.
* An error occurred when opening for the first time any archived
page with no information on the original location the page was
saved from.
* Improvements to the integrated Save Complete extension:
o When saving a complete web page outside of an archive, now
the name of the directory containing the additional files
is properly localized.
o Now the length of the names of the additional saved files is
limited to 50 characters, to prevent problems when saving
or when extracting archives on some file systems.
The following issues are known to exist in MAF 0.15.0:
* In order to open MHTML files when the IE Tab extension is
installed, the filter /^file :\/\/\/.*\.(mht|mhtml)$/ must be
disabled from the IE Tab options.
* The Download Sort extension has a known incompatibility with MAF.
The conflict cannot be resolved without proper modifications to
both extensions, and Download Sort is not actively maintained at
this time.
* When saving a page in an archive fails, retrying the download from
the Downloads window does not achieve the expected result.
* Opening very long documents contained inside MHTML files may cause
the browser to stop responding temporarily.
* With versions of Firefox prior to 3.5.3, web archive files must
have a lowercase file name extension in order to be opened.

Subject: [Maf] User interface feedback
Message-ID: <4A9BEDEE.7060502@amadzone.org>
Hello users,
as you may have read in the latest announcement, Mozilla Archive Format
version 0.15 now provides a new icon, that by default is displayed in
the address bar, to display more information about an archived page.
When the icon is clicked, a popup is displayed, with the link to the
original address the page was saved from. The link can be opened in the
same tab, in a new tab, or in a new window, depending on the type of
click and keyboard modifiers.
This may be the first of a series of small improvements to the user
interface, with the goal of making MAF easier to use and provide
faster access to the features that are most needed.
I thought of the address bar as the most natural place where I'd look
for an icon with information on the current page. There is also the
option of displaying the icon in the status bar, in case its position
in the address bar is not compatible with the Firefox theme in use
(I found at least one incompatible theme).
I'd like to know if you have any suggestion for further improvements
to this interface, or for modifications to the current one. For example,
by default the icon is hidden and appears only for archived pages.
There is an option to always display the icon in the address bar,
but I'm still undecided on which should be the default for new
installations.
I can't guarantee I'll be able to address all suggestions (for example,
I still can't work on providing shortcut keys, for the moment), but I'll
keep track of all comments and try to do the possible for the next
versions of the extension.
Thanks in advance for any contribution!
Regards,
Paolo Amadini

Paolo, just trying the new build
On this page: www.iht.com I get the following error:
************************************************************
http://global.nytimes.com/?iht could not be saved, because an error
occurred.
Try again later, or try saving to a different location.
More information about the error is available in the Error Console
The save operation was performed by the Save complete component in Mozilla
Archive format. If the error persists, You may want to try the browser's
save system instead.
OK.
************************************************************
If I disable the save complete component the page saves, but loses nearly
all it's formatting. (maff attached)
Other page I tried (2 or 3 more really) work ok, try on www.clarin.com (news
also).
Obs: I have installed the save complete extension v1.0.2 - Should I
uninstall it?, I?m trying out unmht also.

Subject: [Maf] [ANN] MAF 0.15.0 (experimental) released
Hello,
Mozilla Archive Format version 0.15.0 is now officially available
for download at .
Regards,
Paolo Amadini

Hello Pablo,
thanks for your feedback! I tried saving the page on my Windows XP with
the latest versions of Firefox 3.0 and 3.5, and don't get any error,
even with the standalone Save Complete installed.
>From the error messages, it seems that the problem occurs when Save
Complete attempts to read an "object" HTML tag, whose content is
usually displayed by plugins (Flash for example). Maybe the plugin
required to view the page, or another extension, is interfering
with the save process.
Can you try again while disabling some of the other plugins or
extensions, and let me know the results?
Paolo
