Hello all,
First off, wish me a happy birthday (I'm getting older by the second,
hurry up). Heh. At this point I'd like to thank everyone who has helped
me with MAF whether they knew it or not including all the translators,
the three people who donated stuff (hardware and dinero), those of you
who submitted patches and scripts and everyone who takes the time to
fill out the bug reports (arg, so many).
Ok, with that out of the way, I bought a Mac Mini last week (doth
no-one give discounts to open source developers anymore?) and although
Xcode is a bit frustrating, I think I've figured out how to use it for
C++ XPCOM component development. Basically the next Maf release *should*
have full Mac support (cross your fingers and all that). I've managed to
build Mozilla, a Gecko SDK for MacOS X and compile most of XPZip as a
dynamically loadable BSD library. It seems to be complaining a bit about
linking to some stuff I built, but I should fix that soon.
MAF has code in it that caters for old Mozilla and Firefox browsers
(from 0.8 to 0.10 to 1.0RC1) so due to time, energy and in the interest
of preserving my sanity I'm only going to support the latest stable
Firefox on each platform (x86 32-bit Linux, Win32 and MacOS X) and I'll
also support the latest stable Mozilla if I have time. This should
result in fewer bugs and a lot less headache (I am still only one person).
Although you should still be able to get a version of MAF for any
betas, nightly builds or release candidates of Mozilla or Firefox from
CVS I will no longer be releasing builds that are for those versions.
Lastly, I'm thinking about changing the browse open archives
interface to be more "Bookmark"-like. Once I get speed, stability and
compatibility issues fixed in the 0.6.x series, that's the next major
thing on my agenda (which should herald the 0.7.x series).
As always, comments welcome.
Regards,
Christopher.
