.maff by default is a zip file. Unzip, edit, zip back and you'll be
fine. You can also try the NukeAnything extension to visually delete
objects before you save the page.

CVS is public and you can distribute CVS builds once you clearly
indicate that it's not an official release. I also don't cater for CVS
build incompatibilities when I release the official version, not to
mention some things might be missing.
I'm trying to have a feature complete, translated version of 0.4.3
available this week, before Nov 9th.
