[LibX] LibX has enabled 3.6 compatibility

Our new version was live, but rebuilding again to pick up the new update.rdf did the trick, though I still wonder why my colleague and Lynn and her colleagues weren't seeing a problem. But all's well that ends.

Thanks, Godmar.

Oops, I think I only upped the version for install.rdf, so fresh installs will be compatible. I forgot to up the version in update.rdf. I did this now. Please rebuild.

Regarding caching; this problem can still occur.

Since the time when each computer last checked for update.rdf is different, it's no surprise that it will work for some, not for others.

However, if it doesn't work after clearing the cache, you may not have made the update live. To check that the update is live, visit the following URL

For old editions:
http://libx.org/editions/vt/update.rdf
 (replace vt with your id)

For new-style editions, visit for instance:
http://libx.org/editions/E9/0A/E90A289F/config.xml

(replace E90A289F with your id, E9 with the first two hexdigits, 0A with the second two hexdigits)

You should see:
  <em:id>{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}</em:id>
  <em:maxVersion>3.6.*</em:maxVersion>
in the XML file update.rdf.

That will tell you if you're live or not.

I'll ask several more people here to update to 3.6 to see if they are similarly trouble-free. My home computer was also fine with our build.

Very strange,

Thanks, Godmar, but I have Firefox set to clear everything when I close it. I've done several restarts and after seeing your message cleared the cache again. No help.

Given Lynn's report it doesn't sound as though it's a 3.6 problem, so I'll have to start looking for some weirdness in my Firefox customization.

Thanks to all who replied.

Firefox caches the update.rdf files for up to 24 hours, so it may think it knows that there's no new version when it fact it simply hasn't checked yet. Clear the cache, then do "Find Updates" again.

Thinking out loud for a second... I thought we'd attempted to fix that by sending appropriate Cache-Control headers... I'll check that later today; may have been lost during the Fedora Core 11 update.

I guess this is more a Firefox question than a LibX question, but LibX is the issue so here goes.

About 5 PM yesterday I created a new version of our edition and made it live. As of a few minutes ago it still doesn't come up when I do Find Updates in my 3.6 Addons menu. IE found the new IE version just fine.

Has anyone else had this experience? Any thoughts on why Firefox 3.6 is taking so long?

Maintainers need to create & test a new revision of their editions and
push it if they wish for their LibX edition to support 3.6. This is
best done before Mozilla turns on the "There's a new version of
Firefox" flag which will signal to end user they can/should update.

Since so far we've had very little compatibility issues with the 3.0
and 3.5 transition, I'll look into adding an "auto" update option
which, when checked, will automatically rebuild your live revision on
a major version update. But 3.6 took us a bit by surprise (Mozilla had
said Q1/2010 which usually means March...)
