Most of the older scripts rot over time, as web landscapes change and
author focus skews elsewhere rather than going back into maintenance.

Oh, lots of them! I've made my own share (a few of which are
admittedly broken) at http://userscripts.org/people/326
While some are specific site mods (integrating Blogger with
Del.icio.us for tagging, both in markup and at the service, for
instance), a lot of my favourites are rather "pan-web hacks",
personalizing the browser experience and unifying how web sites work,
such as these:
http://ecmanaut.blogspot.com/2006/03/mark-my-links.html (tosses in
favicons before links to sites or places or file types I'm interested
in visual indication of)
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/2027 (smooth scrolling between
in-page anchors)
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/4120 (submit forms with Ctrl+Enter)
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/3791 (instant gallery browser of
any web page with links to images)
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/1897 (detects links with escaped
other links inside the URL, offering to rewrite them to short-circuit
to that location with a click)
