[Greasemonkey] Can greasemonkey set user prefs?

Hi all,
Looked around for an answer to this, but to no avail.
Is it possible for a greasemonkey script to alter any of the Firefox
settings (normally set in prefs.js or User.js on the fly?
I understand the ability to do this would be a major security hole for a
public website. I'm trying to find a way to select/change print settings per
page on an internal web app (not public-facing). Specifially, I'd like to be
able to set the default printer and margins when the user loads a particular
page.
Greasemonkey is looking like the most likely option, though I have the
suspicion that Firefox is going to deny this sort of request because it has
the potential for such damage.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
