There was, once upon a time, much discussion on this list about script
versions (see, in descending order, [1],[2],[3], and [4] below).
 
In short, it was decided not to use them. When a script gains
improvements, by the new author or others, it merely replaces the old
one in the repository (though I don't think both of these aspects were
actually implemented; you have to log in to update a script so others
would have to republish with improvements - something I haven't seen
happen). May I make a calm, polite request that the list not be used
to hash this out all over again?
