[Greasemonkey] unable to use 0.5.3

I create a brand new profile in FF 1.0.7, then install GM 0.5.3
in about:config, there is no such greasemonkey.editor entry. the only
greasemonkey.* entry is greasemonkey.version

I created one greasemonkey.editor entry pointing to notepad and then no
longer have the error.

to be sure, I did the instal of GM on another WinXP-SP1/FF 1.0.7 and
cheked about:config, greasemonkey.editor entry is not there

now, 'new user script' works very well but 'install user script' is
greyed out :(

if I use 'manage user scripts' (without any script installed as I can
not install them due to the above line) I get the folowing error in the
JS console:

Error: Component returned failure code: 0x80004001
(NS_ERROR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED) [nsIRequest.name]
Source File:
Line: 431
Source Code:431
