[Greasemonkey] web server settings that silently break script
installation?

hi all! i'm hoping the gurus in the audience might be able to help me track
down a very odd (but reproducible) problem.
i wrote a simple user script, posted it on my blog, and tried installing it. it
claimed it installed successfully, but none of the metadata was loaded, and the
script didn't work after installation.
next, i tried posting the exact same file in an area that's served from the
filesystem, by the same server. when installed from there, it worked fine.
here's the bad:
http://snarfed.org/space/palo+alto+library+amazon+greasemonkey/paloaltolibrary.user.js
and the good:
http://ryan.barrett.name/paloaltolibrary.user.js
the MIME type for both is application/x-javascript. if you download them, diff
will tell you they're identical. the only difference i could find is that, in
View Page Info, the good one's size is reported to be 3610 bytes (correct), but
the bad one's size is reported to be 1186 bytes. strange.
thanks in advance...
-Ryan
