I think that benefit is worthwhile.  I can't think of another way to do it.

Isn't this just a bump due to the change, which will become part of
the landscape when people are used to it?

I like the idea of script includes anyway, and that would require some
enhancement to accomplish cleanly, no matter what we do with this
scoping thing.
