Anyway, I recently shelled out $160 for vBulletin for a personal board my
friends and I use. I was paying special attention to security because my
out-of-date copy of IkonBoard was probably the vector for my web server
getting pwned in March. phpBB (free) had just had a spate of security
patches and 0-day attacks. IIRC, I went with vB over Invision Power Board
(the successor to IkonBoard) because of a bunch of recommendations on the
web for vB.
My biggest gripe with vBulletin is there's no feed capability. However,
it's demoed in 3.5.0 beta 2 at http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/, and I
suppose someone could just hack together a plugin.

I know Bill has complained about this a few times, and I think it's
finally time. On the new site, we should install a forum system. Does
anyone have suggestions on which one is best?
