[Greasemonkey] I'm considering writing a new feature for GM

This would be something similar to gm_xmlhttprequest. It would allow a
script to access any TCP based service, with emphasis on telnet based
applications.
For me, it would allow me to add extra features to the webapps I have to use
at work (integrating information from the few telnet-based applications we
still use, cisco routers, an as400 database, etc). I've already fixed the
webapp to work in Firefox, but it's only just recently occurred to me that I
could add extra functionality. Wonder what the applications dept. thinks of
me?
I've been dinking around in browser.xul (I am correct in thinking that this
is where the primary gm_xhr stuff is, aren't I?). I would appreciate any
tips anyone could give me, and supposing I am able to get it to work, I'd be
happy to let others use this.
I have some questions though.
Would anyone else be interested in this?
At what point could it be considered for inclusion in the GM itself?
Are there any showstoppers I'm not aware of that would make this impossible?
