The author and sole maintainer is a student who wrote it as a learning exercise, staying on top of Google's Gmail code changes has been a low priority for him. Gmailskins' settings are encoded in the name of a label that is hidden when Gmailskins is active. Past discussions have decoded the label's name so people can change settings by renaming the label. (Hint: Use another browser, e.g., IE, where FF extensions are not supported to see the label.) That approach to living with the lack of a settings editor no longer applies if your Gmail account has been upgraded. The new Gmail code involves extensive revision that, in addition to new providing new functionality and an enhanced user experience, lets Gmail and other Google AJAX apps use common components like the formatted text editor. The new Gmail code broke lots of extensions; Google says they attempted to contact Gmail extension authors to help them revise their code for compatibility with Gmail's new code base. What can we users of Gmail extensions (Gmailskins, Gmail RTL, Gmail Manager, Gmail Space, ...) do? 1. Be patient. Many of the current incompatibilities will be sorted out in due time. The extensions are free and worth every penny we pay for them. The authors have lives. This stuff may well be on their backburners. 2. Help out. If you have the skills to work in this space, lend a hand. Some FF projects are open source. Or you can contact the author with your offer of help. 3. Tip your waitress. (I know; that's not a PC way to put it.) Some extension authors let you express your appreciation for their handiwork in a tangible way, through services like PayPal. If you used an extension in the past, really miss it and are anxious for a new version, showing a little love could well motivate the author to make more time for it. No, this is not bribery, on the one hand, or extortion, on the other. Don't give if you don't want to. No one's telling you you have to tip. No one's suggesting an amount. Also, there's no guarantee it will make any difference. On Nov 8, 2007 11:33 PM, HoverHell wrote: > ... > > After last changes to GMail interface, GmailSkins work no more.
