I noticed something strange today (I am presuming it's from the latest update, but I'm not certain). In the settings, in the section for the theme selection and preview - several of the collow selections and previews do not match. For instance, "Brown" shows a preview that is blue. It still will install the correct (brown) theme. Anyway - thought I'd throw this out there, just in case no-one else has brought it up yet. Message-ID: Hello; my name is Santiago Roza, and I'm a freelance journalist for USERS magazine in Argentina, specialized in Free Software. I was testing Gmail Skins and you sure have a great extension there, so I think it'd be great if you added a couple features, so we could have the best general-purpose Gmail extension. Of course you don't want to bloat it, but there are some GreaseMonkey scripts that IMHO are too cool not to integrate them: Persistent searches (stored in a contact) http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/2250 Smart read/unread button http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/2196 Signature float (put it before quoted message) http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/3067 Multiple signatures (depending on from: adress) http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/1592 Other common annoyances without a particular script: replace right-side ads with some other thing, tweak WebClips (scroll, title, etc) ... About the skins feature itself, well it's great, but it would be even better if we had more styles. BTW these might be bugs: I noticed that previews sometimes show a different set of colors, and that fixing the left-side navigation menu makes it impossible for you to scroll it. Well that's pretty much it for now. I really hope you consider my suggestions, and of course congratulations for your work. At the moment gmailskins searches on certain lines of the gmail source code for things to "hijack", these lines are different on different languages because the gmail code is different. It is possible to make it work for every language, but it would be harder to maintain (more work to ensure it remains compatible with any changes in the javascript at gmails end). The HTML is also different on different languages (eg: some elements have different IDs in French than in EN-US), this makes it harder still. The reason for choosing EN-US is not because it is the most popular/I'm American (I'm not, I'm British), but because it is the most recent version of gmail. I do find it pretty odd that non EN-US users get fewer features yet perhaps don't realise? Asking the user to change their language is annoying I know, but I don't have the time to make it work with every version. It can be downloaded from: https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=421 On many extensions, the only thing limiting compatibility is the version tags in the install.rdf. However, my email recipients tell me that the smiley shows as a broken image link. I sent myself an email to my work address, and got the same result. I dawned on me that what really gets inserted is a link to the smiley image. While this is great at keeping the email size small, (and a great example of simple re-use), some recipients are behind proxies or firewalls that block unknown URLs (that's what my employer's proxy does). I haven't played with inserting links to my own images, but if that works the same way, people won't be able to see my photos because they won't be able to access my computer behind my firewall, when they're reading my email. So, I wanted to suggest an option of actually inserting a copy of the image directly into the email, rather than just a link. Perhaps this could be a choice either on the email tool bar, or in the skins settings (which is where I'd prefer it). Especially with the smileys. Smileys, in particular, I wouldn't think would increase the size of the mail appreciably, and should make their proper appearance near universal for recipients. Message-ID: <96f674ba0603210742r5206b395v5a639253b6d3f5ee@mail.gmail.com> Glad to see the insert table button in new version. How can you adjust the size of a row or column (height or width, respectively)? Gmail's table widget has tools for deleting the row or column or adding another, either before or after the currently selected one, at least that's how it seems to me the circle with the x and the two little triangles work. Have not found a way to drag column or row dividers to adjust size. This is not a Gmailskins issue but a question about the table widget in Gmail itself. When you forward a message with a table in it, you get the same widget if you select in a table. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It is not possible to set the width with the widget as far as I know, it just uses the default column width algorithm to decide cell width (this depends on cell contents). You should be able to get more control with the insert html button. Insert etc Matthew On 3/21/06, Fred Calm wrote: > > Glad to see the insert table button in new version.
