On this note, do we have a testcase repository?  I know we've hit lots 
of strange cases like this in the past, and we have little hacks 
throughout the codebase to make them work.  It'd be nice to have a test 
suite so that if we make changes like this, we can verify that we 
haven't broken any past fixes.
