If so, this is a bug that I will have to look into more, if not, please read on. One question I thought about a lot when developing the extension was: Should the tabs be displayed all the time or should the tabs only be displayed when the "Custom" preset is chosen? My thought was to keep it as simple as possible and only show the tabs when the "Custom" preset is selected. However, I'm starting to second guess this because it may not be apparent to new users. The only drawback is that it requires a lot of action on the part of the user, and could be very frustrating to new users. Let me know if you have other creative ideas on how to solve this issue, for now the best work around is to disable enhanced prefetching altogether. Firefox appeared to hang, consuming 100% CPU. This was using v0.6.5 of FasterFox. 2) The second was the UK Yellow pages (http://www.yell.com), where I tried to print the results of searching for a "taxi" in "pangbourne". In this case Firefox crashed repeatedly with a windows exception (trying to read 0000000, I think). On the first occasion, I also let the Firefox bug-reporting tool send a report. The crash happened with both v0.6.4 and v0.6.5 of FasterFox. Removing FasterFox made the problem disappear. Do let me know if you think of others as well. As far as the settings being visible goes, my thought was to make it seem as simple as possible up front, and only show the more complicated options if the user clicks "Custom". I'll give this idea some more thought and maybe post a poll on the website to see what folks would prefer. Thanks for mentioning "FireTune"; it is definitely an excellent utility, another good one to check out is the "Tweak Network" extension. There are some subtle differences between them; Fasterfox's prefetching mechanism is totally unique. It causes all of the links on a page to be added to the queue to be prefetched; this is not a simple toggle of a setting, but rather a totally new feature. Fasterfox is also cross platform compatible, whereas, I believe that FireTune only runs on Windows machines. Thanks again for your help and input, Tony -----Original Message----- From: Mertsch [mailto:mertsch@gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, September 29, 2005 1:23 PM To: fasterfox@mozdev.org Subject: feedback very nice extension! although you can do everything with FireTune would be nice if you add the XUL error page setting and if you use one of the presets it would be nice to have all tabs visible but values greyed out greets Mertsch
