List(s):

I checked both my sent folder from the last post, and the message
from the list. The signature from my previous key was bad. I guess
that means my imported key pair was bad.

I generated a new keypair, and got a good signature block this time.

Sidebar -- Would OpenPGP (might be updated) or GnuPG (didn't reinstall)
~ be the culprit for a valid key not working under the new install?

Anyway, I've corrected the problem.

I'll look in my old key ASC file and see if it is from an older GPG.

Peace,

Barry

| It's been a long road, but I think I figured out the problem that I
was
| having with my email / encryption solution.
|
| A. As the subject shows, T-Bird was my preferred email package.
| B. I was running the Add-in WebMail, both the WebMail extension for
GMail
| ~ and Y!Mail.
| C. On top of all of that, I was running Enigmail. I forget now, but
I
| ~ think the install package of GPG gave my workstation WinPT (a
tool
| ~ that I love from before I started using Enigmail) and GPA, along
with
| ~ another email app... Sylpheed-Claws.
| ~ 1. Even though Sylpheed-Claws is supposed to be
encryption-friendly,
| ~ I'm sticking with good ol' T-Bird.
|
| I believe my other computer has the same problem that developed on
this
| computer. Sometime after I installed T-Bird, I started looking
through
| the settings, and somehow I changed something that hosed things up,
just
| enough to make encryption & WebMail ineffective, therefore almost
| completely useless.
|
| I've been struggling to use encryption effectively, while having the
major
| imposition (sic) of not always being able to encrypt/decrypt
easily...
| within my email app, T-Bird.
|
| Okay, jump forward until the beginning of this month.
|
| I got tired of reinstalling T-Bird to try and fix the problem, and
trying
| to remember what settings I hosed up.
|
| I had found (heard of almost a year ago, and then tested using)
PortableApps.
| I finally got PortableApps set up correctly on a USB using T-Bird
Portable,
| then I filled up my USB with email.
| I was happy with TBP on the USB, and I had it running well on the
USB,
| so I decided to replace T-Bird (full package... installed on the hard

drive)
| with TBP.
|
| Now, all that I had to do was find a tool to export my emails from
two
copies
| of T-Bird, and a tool to import them back. Because most Mozilla
email
apps
| (Netscape, Mozilla Mail, T-Bird, TBP, and probably many others) use
mbox
| technology to store each email folder in two files, I had to find a
tool
| that would extract my emails, then I would merge them into one set of
| folders, and then import them back.
|
| I found out about a couple of mbox tools builtin to IMAPSize at
| http://broobles.com/imapsize/ , which is GPL or OpenSource or
Freeware
(all
| three terms are in use now for basically the same idea).
|
| So, ...
|
| 1) I used the IMAPSize Tool mbox2eml to export all of my TPB email on
| ~ my USB to my hard drive. Then,
| 2) I used the same mbox2eml to export all of my email from the busted
| ~ T-Bird on my hard drive. Then,
| 3) I merged the EML folders into one set. Then,
| 4) I deleted T-Bird and all of the files associated with it...
including
| ~ the Mozilla mbox files (not the eml files)... from the hard
drive.
| ~ *** Note: I didn't have to delete GPG or any of the tools that I
like,
| ~ because GPG, WinPT, GPA, etc are all tools outside of
T-Bird.
| 5) I installed TBP onto my harddrive, installed WebMail,
WebMail-GMail,
| ~ Webmail-Y!Mail into TBP, installed Enigmail. I looked on my
second
| ~ USB, where I keep all of my keys/ids/resumes/etc, and imported
all
| ~ of the keys back into OpenPGP/Enigmail.
|
| Tale of the tape --
| I now have TBP running fairly reliably, and I have my latest keys
installed
| there.
| TBP locks up every once in a while (looks like it only happens when I

overtax
| the application... ie, I open an email as TPB opens it's connection
with a mail
| server). When TPB locks, the only thing that I lose are email rules
that I had
| set up that session. I never lose emails, or any other email
information.
| All-in-all, I can live with that, so I'm very happy with my config
overall.
|
| Peace,
|
| Barry Smith
