Yes

If you encrypt the message using EnigMail then the recipient *must*
decrypt it before he can read it. ONLY the true recipient will be able
to decrypt it, this is the whole purpose of GnuPG encryption, which
EngMail uses.
If Thunderbird/EnigMail sees that an email is encrypted when you open
it, you will be presented with a dialogue to enter your encryption
passphrase and then the decryption is "automatic".

No

Thunderbird automatically checks for new versions of EnigMail and if
found you are presented with a dialogue where you can accept the
update.

You will have to get to grips with the concept of encryption (GnuPG)
that EnigMail uses to use it. GPG is using secret and public
encryption keys to make it possible for other persons to send you
encrypted messages. Check the GPG forums for information about this.
