[truly absurd amounts of quoting snipped]
As a public service announcement, here are the etiquette norms of the
Enigmail community. Please do not think they are universal norms; each
online community gets to define their own culture. The following is
just the norms of the Enigmail mailing list.
1. Be nice.
2. HTML postings are frowned upon. HTML email is a potential privacy
and security risk.
3. Attachments, including PGP/MIME, are frowned upon. Many mail
servers will strip MIME attachments from incoming messages. Your
attachments may not reach people on the list.
4. Top-posting is frowned upon.
A. Because it screws up the natural order of reading.
Q. Why?
5. Trim your quotes. Quoted material should be used to give context
to your own replies, instead of providing a record of everything
that's been said so far.
6. Before asking questions, please check the FAQ and/or Google.
The Enigmail list is a place for discussion about Enigmail. There are
other mailing lists devoted to other related subjects. You will
probably have better luck asking GnuPG questions on GnuPG-Users than on
the Enigmail list, for instance.
* PGP-Basics at Yahoo! Groups. PGP-Basics is meant as a safe and
welcoming environment for newcomers to email encryption. If you are
looking for a place to get your feet wet, this is probably the best
place to go.
* GnuPG-Users. GnuPG-Users is the user discussion group for GnuPG,
much as Enigmail-Users is the user discussion group for Enigmail.
Werner Koch, David Shaw and other GnuPG maintainers are active members
of this list. Questions often get answered in a matter of hours.
* GnuPG-Devel. GnuPG-Devel is the public development list for GnuPG.
If you have questions about the internal workings of GnuPG, this is
a good place to go.
There are many other excellent mailing lists related to GnuPG and
Enigmail. If you don't know which mailing list would be best for your
question, please, feel free to ask.
Above all else, welcome to the Enigmail community!
