This is my first post on this list, so apologies if I hit the wrong place. The thing is that I am looking for the place where to request a new, simple extension which I have not been able to find. Here you are the details. I've been searching for an extension that would allow my Thunderbird to detect an existing entry in the address book when I do right-click on the sender name (From field) and select "Add to address book", to avoid duplicated entries. If a contact has the email address on any of the mail related fields, the address book window that pops up would contain the profile of that user, so that the user could edit. Alternatively, the "Add to address book" link would change into "Edit contact" or something like that. And that's it. Thanks in advance. -- Jaume Sabater http://linuxsilo.net/ "Ubi sapientas ibi libertas" From su at coach.landau.ws Mon Sep 1 00:37:19 2008 From: su at coach.landau.ws (Paddy Landau) Date: Mon, 01 Sep 2008 08:37:19 +0100 Subject: [Discuss] Where to ask for a new extension In-Reply-To: <48BB932E.6070906@linuxsilo.net> References: <48BB932E.6070906@linuxsilo.net> Message-ID: <48BB9BAF.6020705@coach.landau.ws> Jaume Sabater wrote: > I've been searching for an extension ... to avoid duplicated entries. Sometimes, duplicate entries are valid, such as when two people share the same email address (yes, it does happen; I have a couple on my email list). May I suggest Duplicate Contact Manager to help you: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2505 It checks more than just the email address. I think the 'Duplicate Contact Manager' extension should do what you need. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2505 Regards, - Brian From jsabater at linuxsilo.net Mon Sep 1 01:07:11 2008 From: jsabater at linuxsilo.net (Jaume Sabater) Date: Mon, 01 Sep 2008 10:07:11 +0200 Subject: [Discuss] Where to ask for a new extension In-Reply-To: <48BB9BAF.6020705@coach.landau.ws> References: <48BB932E.6070906@linuxsilo.net> <48BB9BAF.6020705@coach.landau.ws> Message-ID: <48BBA2AF.8010607@linuxsilo.net> Paddy Landau wrote: Hi, Paddy! >> I've been searching for an extension ... to avoid duplicated entries. > > Sometimes, duplicate entries are valid, such as when two people > share the same email address (yes, it does happen; I have a > couple on my email list). Erm... I agree, but that is why the extension would be a good idea: you either turn it on or off depending on your needs. In my case, it is a must and duplicated contacts won't exist (or, if they do, it will be considered a minor problem next to avoiding duplicated entries). > May I suggest Duplicate Contact Manager to help you: > https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2505 > It checks more than just the email address. Yes, I know about it and I am using it right now to help cleaning duplicated contacts. The thing is that with address books with 2000+ contacts, it's a tedious process :) I have spoken to Mark Krieger, who did the addressContext extension, but he is not developing it any further and he told me that "it should not be too difficult to get what you need", and to ask here. I must not be the only person trying to get rid of duplicates on a permanent basis, am I? :) -- Jaume Sabater http://linuxsilo.net/ "Ubi sapientas ibi libertas" From e.hauff at uol.com.br Thu Sep 4 14:01:45 2008 From: e.hauff at uol.com.br (EHauff) Date: Thu, 4 Sep 2008 18:01:45 -0300 (Hora oficial do Brasil) Subject: [Discuss] Suggestion Message-ID: <48C04CB9.000009.02880@EHAUFF> Well, I just couldn't find any other email address to send a suggestion to an improvement to httproxy, which is reqally very good! What I've been missing is the 'view page via httproxy' or 'open in new tab via httproxy' when you right-click on a link inserted in/on a drawing or p?cture. You have the options only after the link is opened through the drawing or p?cture, and not BEFORE you open the page, which would be preferable for obvious reasons. Hope to see this feature added in one of your nest updates. Ed Hauff -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
