I'm not sure if you're asking about a hooking it up for IMDB in general,
or if you really want it to use IMDB's search page specifically.

I have always had an IMDB query for Dictionary Search. I just use:
http://imdb.com/find?tt=on;nm=on;mx=20;q=$
It can probably be shortened to:
http://imdb.com/find?q=$

That's just the basic general search -- which is what I want since it
usually gets the title or name right just because most titles and names
aren't the same. There may be a way to specify for more advanced
searches, but I haven't bothered looking into it since that one does
everything I need it to over 99% of the time.

Though just taking a quick look, it looks like a few other customizable
ones should be:
title search: http://imdb.com/find?q=$;s=tt
cast/crew search: http://imdb.com/find?q=$;s=nm
character search: http://imdb.com/Character?$

Other specific searches are probably do-able, too. If there's a
specific one you can't figure out, let me know, and I'll give it at
least a quick attempt.
