I understand what you're saying about creating a "real" internet shortcut that should be platform/browser-independent. I'm not sure I would call it a "proprietary file" though - it's still a shortcut to a program (Firefox), that simply passes it a URL address. In any case, I don't see what harm it would do to add this as an *option* in DeskCut.

Yes it would - I already have lots of shortcuts in that format that I've created manually - it works fine.

Using separate logins & SwitchUser would be a bit of a hassle, since my wife & I are otherwise able to share a computer with no problem - with the exception of our preferred browsers (I haven't been able to convert her to Firefox -yet!).
As you suggested, I've already tried creating a SendTo Firefox item, but it doesn't work - it opens the URL as a text file. If you or someone else knows how to create a Context Menu item for opening URL shortcuts in Firefox, please let me know . That would make this whole DeskCut issue moot.
