I am also having problems installing ConQuery, however, this is using Thunderbird under Windows XP. The extension apparently installs just fine, but the extension will not recognise any plugins of which I have downloaded several. Highlighting a word and right-clicking brings forth a menu which indeed includes a 'Query to ...' item, but includes no sub-items which of course is logical since no plugins were recognised. The Query plugin directory is set to C:\Programmer\Mozilla Thunderbird\searchplugins and this directory does include several *.cqr.txt files. I very much like to have this plugin to work. Any ideas? Well, immediately after I posted my question, I was able to get the GoogleAdvanced extension recognized. What I did was to define my own 'Query Plugin Directory' I then went to http://conquery.mozdev.org/plugins.html and clicked on the 'view' link for Google Advanced Search. I then saved this text to a file called GoogleAdvanced.cqr. This allowed me to see GoogleAdvanced appear in the 'Detected plugins' list and it does show up in the 'Query To...' menu. However, after selecting some text and selecting 'Google Advanced Search' from the menu, no search is performed. I did try holding down the control key so I could edit the text I had selected and, while the dialog to allow these edits did appear, pressing ok did not result in any search being performed. Can anyone confirm that this extension and plugin works with FireFox 1.0 under MacOSX 10.3.7? So, Uffe, you may want to try removing the .txt from those files (assuming they are valid .cqr files)...doing this may then allow ConQuery to detect the plugin, but things may still not work. -- == Eric Gorr ========= http://www.ericgorr.net ========= ICQ:9293199 == "Those who would sacrifice a little freedom for temporal safety deserve neither to be safe or free." - Benjamin Franklin == Insults, like violence, are the last refuge of the incompetent... === From uffe at shelter.dk Mon Jan 3 20:53:53 2005 From: uffe at shelter.dk (Uffe Holst) Date: Mon Jan 3 15:03:00 2005 Subject: [Conquery] Can't install ConQuery Plugin In-Reply-To: <41D9A0F7.9010607@shelter.dk> References: <41D99CE4.3000402@ericgorr.net> <41D9A0F7.9010607@shelter.dk> Message-ID: <41D9A2D1.40404@shelter.dk> Uffe Holst wrote: > The Query plugin directory is set to > > C:\Programmer\Mozilla Thunderbird\searchplugins > > and this directory does include several *.cqr.txt files. I did wonder a bit about this double suffix. I downloaded them initially by right-clicking on the 'view' next to each plugin and then saving them to disk. This apparently added a .txt to the already existing .cqr suffix, creating a double suffix that was not there before. And therefore ConQuery wouldn't recognise the plugins. Well, I have just renamed all the plugins to have a *.cqr suffix, and ConQuery finds them all now. Perhaps the instructions on the searchplugin download page should be a bit more clear ... Well, as you probably already have read in my next post, I have made it work by - as you suggest - renaming the files to remove the excess *.txt. Thanks a lot for your help even though it was a bit too late. But had I not been as bright as I am, I am sure your help you have been a great help. Before I started renaming the searchplugins, I upgraded from 1.4.5 which I installed before Christmas. And I am, as I said earlier, running ConQuery in Mozilla Thunderbird, and not Firefox, on a computer running Windows XP Home. And why doesn't the mailing list software set a reply-to? I don't use FireFox, so I don't know much about it. But you have noticed the ConQuery setting on the 'Preferences' tab called "Open query results in" which here default is set to "a new tab, in background". Perhaps it really works and you simply haven't noticed that it opens in the background. You could try one of the other settings and see what happens ... ? If I select 'a new tab, in background', it does not work. If I select 'a new tab, focused', it does not work. If I select 'a new window, in background', it does work. If I select 'a new window, focused', it does work. So, the bug would appear to be that ConQuery does not successfully tell FireFox to create a new tab.
