[Companion] tiny fixes

Yahoo Toolbar reports 0.5.4.20041012 on this machine at work.  This is where I
am experiencing the memory leaks.

The version of Firefox at home is the same, but am using a slightly newer
version of the companion which reports different versions in Tools ->
Extensions and the About box.
