In Thunderbird, right-click on the message compose window to reveal the Clippings submenu. You should also find the Clippings icon on the status bar in Firefox and Thunderbird; the icon image appears as a piece of paper. I recommend reading the Clippings Quick Start Guide at to familiarize yourself with this extension. This is useful if you manage multiple users and you want all of them to use the same Clippings datasource file. Details on this new feature is available in the help topic "Info for System Administrators" which you can view at . This help topic also contains download links to a standalone application, Clippings Editor, which simplifies the creation of default Clippings datasource files. Enjoy! Is this happening in Firefox or Thunderbird? It doesn't matter whether a clipping is in a folder or not; as long as a shortcut key was assigned to a clipping, it *should* work as you described. Invoke Clippings Manager, look for the clipping with the assigned shortcut key and confirm that the Shortcut Key drop-down field shows the key that you assigned to the clipping. When pressing CTRL+ALT+V, do you see a dialog box with this message: "Press the shortcut key of the clipping you want to paste. To Cancel, press Esc"? CTRL+ALT+V is enabled when a web page text box is focused (Firefox) or you are composing an email or newsgroup message (Thunderbird). In any other situation, CTRL+ALT+V will be ignored. I would suggest disabling all your Firefox/Thunderbird extensions except Clippings, and try again. Perhaps another extension is interfering with CTRL+ALT+V. Since Clippings is a Firefox and Thunderbird extension, it will only work within either of those two apps. It will not work in other desktop applications like Safari, Pages, MS Word, etc. On Fri, Mar 28, 2008 at 9:39 AM, Alexander Schneider wrote: > > CTRL+ALT+V, then the shortcut key. > > That doesn't work, whether clipping is in a folder or not. The dropdown appeared 3- I pressed the shortcut key, and the text from the clipping appeared properly. It's important to note that I had to keep Ctrl+Opt+v depressed while I pressed the shortcut key. If I released that three key combination prior to pressing the shortcut key, only the character for the shortcut key appeared. Best regards, Brian Alex Eng wrote: One more thing to try. It sounds like the shortcut key behaviour on Mac OS X is rather awkward to contend with. So many keys to hold down, and so many fingers involved, just to insert a clipping using the keyboard! I will have to research a workaround that would simplify things. Of course, any helpful reports of further observations on this issue are most welcome. A bug report has been created to document this issue; see . Further comments on this issue should be recorded there. My OS is up to date. I installed clippings for Firefox as well, to see if that would change anything. But the shortcut doesn't work for me there either. Should the issue resolve somehow, i'll let you know. Maybe it has to do with the keyboard, but i have no other isues with it.
