[Caminol10n] Localization Application

Hi,

before I'm about to completely reinvent the wheel, I'd like to ask you
some question.

1.   Is there already a program helping you with the translation of an
application? Feature: help with organizing the translation process,
means e.g. a quick view off how far the translation process has
already gone and which strings haven't been translated yet. I do not
mean AppleGlot, because that's kind of broken on Intel Macs and
therefore useless to owners of such a device. Also AppleGlot doens't
have any "team" functions (or I haven't found them yet). Actually it
seems to me that the members of a translation team communicate and
review others translation via email or IM and the translation of the
whole Camino translation team works via this mailing list.
Consider a case of an upcoming release of Camino:
  The leader of the whole Camino translation team wants to know the
status of the several languages.
He needs to ask via this mailing list and then probably to tell the
release managers so they can plan a proper release date.
It would be way easier if this could be done without the writing: the
leader of the translation team just looks up the status of every
language planned for this release an the overall status.
This would result in much shorter communication between release
managers and the managers of the translation. Or the release managers
themselves could look such things up.

I searched a lot around the web but the only way I found to translate
a Cocoa application is via AppleGlot or "manually" via Interface
Builder and nibtool.


2.   Is there a need of such an application?
I'm planning to develop such an application.


3.   Are there any volunteers who'd like to help me developing this?
Also I've got a lot of free time now, the weather's too nice here in
Germany and I can hardly stay inside the house. Unfortunately Apple's
MacBook isn't water proved yet...


The program would cover the above mentioned aspects for improving the
translation process or other wishes you have. In the end it will very
likely be an Client-Server application, meaning we'd need a server to
use it and perhaps to store files.

The goal is an application (platform) helping the translators with
translation (but not to do the translation itself) and verifying it,
e.g. with reviewers who have to read through the whole translation
until the status can be set to 100% done to ensure every string has
been translated properly.


Thoughts on this are appreciated.
